Pete Tyler

Senior Staff Instructor


Pete Tyler brings to PFC a highly qualified background of instructional capabilities and operational expertise. Pete’s law enforcement career spans over 27 years and includes assignments as a Patrol Officer, Sergeant, Training Coordinator, Lieutenant, and Deputy Chief.

He currently serves as the Chief of Police for a city police department in Upstate New York where he oversees the management of the department which includes, Patrol Division, Administrative Division, Investigations, and many various specialty units, including SWAT. Due to his expertise, Pete has also participated for the last 18 years on the local safe school committee, representing local law enforcement. In this role, he has assisted in the development of the current district safe school plan as well as implementing and evaluating numerous county schools’ lock down procedures and training opportunities for school districts. Prior to civilian law enforcement, Pete served in the US Army and was assigned to Fort Carson, CO in the 4th Infantry Division.

Pete’s law enforcement service includes serving as a Defensive Tactics Instructor for both his department and the regional Police Academy. He is also certified Firearms Instructor and Less-Lethal Instructor providing instruction to local and state law enforcement. Pete has attended numerous training programs throughout his career in all aspects of tactical operations and leadership.

In 1997, Pete assisted in the comprehensive formation of his department’s multi-agency SWAT team, to include SOPs, initial training, and operational readiness evaluations. During his 12 years on SWAT, his assignments included Entry Team Leader, Tactical Team Leader, Training Coordinator, and Assistant Commander, as well as overseeing and coordinating all aspects of training and operations.

Pete works for the NYS Homeland Security as an SME at the State Preparedness Training Center as a Tactics Instructor and also Louisiana State University as an Instructor for their LASER program. Pete has also worked as a consultant-instructor for the US Department of Homeland Security teaching primarily the Managing Civil Actions in Threat Incidents (MCATI) Basic course, which is offered nationally. In his spare time, he is an Fire Fighter and former Assistant Fire Chief with his local volunteer Fire Department where he is a certified Emergency Medical Technician with over 28 years’ experience.

Pete serves the PFC Group of Companies as firearms & tactics instructor for PFC Training and a Protection Agent for PFC Safeguards protective details.
