Course Overview

Course Details

With the advent of miniature red dot sights for handguns, training, and operational deployment is undergoing a radical and rapid evolution. Unfortunately, the MRDS is far less intuitive than its bigger brother on the carbine. A sound and solid foundation within an agency/organization is a must for the logical, progressive, and safe rollout of these innovative systems. Handgun Optic Instructor Skills and Tactics Certification or HOIST-C aims to equip law-enforcement handgun firearms instructors with the knowledge, tools, tactics, techniques, and procedures to competently and confidently bring your agency into this modern, albeit more biologically conducive, domain. Adopting this technology cannot end simply with the purchase and the “owner’s manual.” In short, HOIST-C sets your fellow officers up to win.

Topics covered include:

  • Pragmatic safety and the risk analysis tool
  • Advanced instructor development
  • The 5-point information delivery model
  • Optic selection (pros, cons & options)
  • Support equipment & maintenance
  • Five varieties of dot acquisition
  • Shooter-related problems & associated remediation
  • Optic-related problems/malfunction
  • Weapon re-function-related problems
  • Low light operations
  • Student led-teach backs
  • Written examination and live fire skills test

Enrollment: Open to the Department of Defense, law enforcement, government agencies, and eligible government contractors.
