James Howard

Staff Instructor

James Howard brings to PFC almost 25 years of military law enforcement, security, and contingency response expertise.  He began his Air Force career in 1999 and has supported operations around the world during the Global War on Terror.  The start of his tactical career began when he became a member of the installation’s Emergency Services Team and eventually assigned to the Contingency Response Group in Germany.  As a Raven, he has flown over 200 missions providing fly-away security to personnel and aircraft in austere locations.  He spent three years in Air Force Special Operations Command as a DAGRE, supporting special operations in Europe and Africa.  James served over five years safeguarding nuclear assets as a Tactical Response Force team leader, team sergeant for Convoy Response Force, and Operations Superintendent.  He has led over 250 men and women defending Air Force assets and providing law enforcement response, airbase ground defense capabilities, and nuclear deterrence operations.

For almost 15 years, James has been a student of PFC and advocate for better training in his career field.  His goal as leader at every level is to develop lethal Airmen that were properly equipped and highly trained to accomplish their mission.  This never-ending endeavor helped modernize how forces respond to hostilities involving nuclear assets and conducting fly-away security missions.  He has worked civilian law enforcement agencies to build cohesive response within the civil/military community and building partnership capacity with joint and combined forces during contingency responses.  Most notably, James spent a year in downtown Baghdad, leading a team charged with training Iraqi Police during the height of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

James earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, is a licensed pilot, and avid skydiver.  His pursuit of adventure also includes snowboarding, SCUBA diving, and BASE jumping around the world.
